About Us

Who we are

ViKO was founded in 2009 by Hannes van Dullemen, and is based in Midstream, Gauteng. ViKO’s aim is to utilise their expert knowledge and extensive experience gained in the food, beverage and other industries to provide an engineering service that considers and addresses the client’s complete requirement in order to provide the desired solutions and improve its operations.

A key focus for ViKO engineers is the understanding of the client’s process flows and plant operations. It is critical to properly communicate and define requirements from the start in order to detail concepts and designs, do proper planning and ultimately have a successfully completed project.

ViKO can add long term value to an organisation through technically sound solutions, their existing experience and expertise in various fields, customer focussed mind-set and alignment with the client’s organisational objectives.

From our experience in the telecommunication, food & beverage industry we realised that there exists a large communication gap between the client and existing available civil & structural engineers. Furthermore, structural engineers do not necessarily understand the time, economic and access challenges faced by the client's engineers to construct structures, buildings and supporting infrastructure. The aforementioned can cause delays during the pre-tender phase due to details that need to travel back and forth for reviews and this ties up the client in details that should be provided by an 'expert'.

Further, Civil & structural engineers should know and understand the client's principals regarding processes and flows of a plant set-up.

All document and drawing plan production are done in-house. The use of 3D packages have become the norm in modern day engineering design and analysis, 2D applications however will never be obsolete and ViKO utilises both type software systems.

Engineering Software packages such as AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit are used on a continuing basis. From an engineering design and analysis perspective we utilise the South African developed software package PROKON for all structural and finite element analysis.

About Us

The People

Hannes van Dullemen is our lead engineer and founder director of ViKO Consulting Engineers. He holds a B-Tech (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Technology in Pretoria. He has 20 years of experience in the hygienic facility industry of which 14 years as a structural engineer.

ViKO employs fulltime engineering technologists and technicians who specialises in telecommunications infrastructure construction, concrete design and detailing, building projects. They also perform the required drafting and detailing of steel structures and also assists in the construction management of each project assigned to them.

Drafts persons and other specialised professional persons are appointed on a contract basis. Our administrative lady is also proficient and well experienced in AutoCAD and 3D perspective design and drawing.

  • Hannes Van Dullemen

  • Civil & Structural Engineer

  • Hannes van Dullemen is the owner and head engineer for Viko Consulting Engineers and is a graduate of Tshwane University of Technology. Specializing in food structure architecture and structural engineering.After his engineering training, he joined Nestlé South Africa’s head office engineering, projects division. His initial appointment was as trainee engineer on structural aspects of process plant buildings and construction sites.Quickly he grew a keen interest in the complicated business of architectural details, unique to the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industry.

  • Eugene Le Roux

  • Senior Project Coordinator

  • His qualifications include a National Diploma: Electronic Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Technology: Project Management. Various courses have advanced his skills related to Project Management, Planning & Control, Commercial & Legal, General Business ensuring professional application of NEC, JBCC and FIDIC contracts and software packages such as Microsoft Projects, Primavera and PS NeXT to name a few. With more than 15 years’ experience in Project Management at various levels and different industries, he has proven to be an experienced team player focusing on results to the benefit of all stakeholders. Past industries include Vertical Transportation, Transmission & Distribution Substations, Power Generation, Chemical & Nuclear Engineering and Electronic Research & Development projects. Working within the high-performance team of ViKO Consulting Engineers, he is able to contribute to the success of a professional, committed, proudly South African company which is having its client best interest at heart.

  • Ivor Altona

  • Project Coordinator

  • He holds a B.Eng. Industrial Engineering degree from the University of Pretoria. Ivor is a solid internal as well as external relationship builder and have dealt with globally recognized businesses as well as various small businesses. He is a self-motivated, well skilled results driven experienced executive consultant with vast knowledge and experience within the broad but also specialized business environment. Particularly in business management, industrial and residential construction, automotive operations, quality control, project management and process optimization. Ivor’s excellent interpersonal skills and ability to connect with people, gives him the ability to drive, design, manage and implement sound business practices across all functional areas of an organization. He works and communicate well on all levels leading towards excellence and sustainability.

  • Derk de Lange

  • Quantity Surveyor

  • He graduated from the Tshwane University of Technology with a BTech Quantity surveying degree. He has been in the industry for 15 years, working his way from the position of supervisor in his father’s construction firm. The pure mechanics of how each section or division of the industry plays it role to create the infrastructure and facilities people/companies require is what made him want to stay in the industry and learn how each role player executes his responsibilities and obligations. Derk is especially interested in the commercial law pertaining to the construction industry.

  • Peter Donnan

  • Civil & Structural Engineer

  • He obtained a Bsc (Eng) Civil degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2012. He has over eight years’ experience in the structural engineering sector. He has experience in structural steel and reinforced concrete design in commercial, industrial, residential, leisure and hotel, urban renewal and retail developments. Major clients worked with include Sun International, AB InBev, JP Morgan, FNB, Sasol and currently Ford Motor Company. Countries of work experience include South Africa, Cameroon, Nigeria, Zambia & Hong Kong.

  • Nelis Snyman

  • Civil & Structural Engineer

  • He graduated from Tshwane University of Technology with a BTech Structural Engineering degree. He has been working for ViKO Consulting Engineers for 5 years, since 2016. He specializes as Resident Engineer on site & Project Coordinator. Worked his way up as Civil Engineer for a construction company in the telecoms industry and proceeded with Engineering works and started his BTech in Structures. The process of planning to designing captivated him and the pursuit of perfection and quality made shaped his passion for industrial structures. Nelis is a hardworking perfectionistic, organised and dedicated with an ability to improve working environments with strong interpersonal skills demonstrating utmost discretion and integrity when dealing with clients.

  • Bertus du Plessis

  • Engineering Technician

  • He started 14 years ago, in 2007 in the telecommunication industry where he began his career as a site manager on greenfield sites for MTN, Vodacom and Cell C. In 2013 he started with Viko Consulting Engineers to continue growing his knowledge in construction. Bertus work experience at Viko taught him the skills to use AutoCAD as well as Revit and to model different types of drawings needed for construction purposes. He has also been exposed to a wide variety of divisions such as plumbing, storm water pipe installations, earthworks as well as rebar and concrete modelling. He mostly enjoys working with the rebar and concrete as this is the base of any building.

  • Jandré Nel

  • Civil & Structural Engineer

  • Jandre holds a national diploma in civil engineering and a Btech degree in Structural engineering both obtained from Tshwane University of Technology. While graduating Jandre was presented with SAICE’s joint structural division price for best overall academic achievement in the field of structural engineering at the university (2018). Jandre is a young aspiring civil and structural engineer. Currently he is working as a design engineer tasks to design, produce construction drawing, lease with the client and project management. He is motivated by the challenge that is presented in everyday life and the reward that comes with handing over a successful project to a satisfied client.

  • Nico Grobler

  • Civil & Structural Engineer

  • He is a design engineer with a Btech: Civil Engineering specializing in structures. Coming from a construction background he is greatly proficient in developing not only the most cost-effective solution but also a solution which is practical and time efficient. Nico states from his experience engineering is not only a method of analysing stresses in elements but also a way of thinking logically and remaining calm whilst having to solve problems under pressured conditions.

  • Martin Geldenhuys

  • BIM Coordinator

  • He has been a Revit Specialist & BIM Coordinator with over 20 years’ experience in the structural engineering sector. Martin studies at Intec Collage for Structural Drawing, Pro-con for Revit & Structural Detailer and is busy with National Diploma for Civil Engineering at the Engineering Academy. He has worked primarily in design and development of Architectural and Structural Models as well as Coordination and Documentation of Structural Steel and Structural Concrete. Martin has extensive experience in industrial, retail, leisure and hotel developments. Past clients he worked with are Nestle SA, Mc Cains, Sasol, ERIS Property Group, Tsogo Sun, Boogertman & Partners, ABin Bev & Ford. His work experience includes structures of up to 180,000m² as well as multi-story buildings with 20+ floors above ground as well as 7 basements levels. Countries of work experience include South Africa, Dubai & Seychelles. Martin states the best part of his career is to see how projects transform from models on a screen to real life structures.

  • Dehan holds a National N-Nated Diploma in Civil Engineering from Damelin College and he is currently studying a course in Construction Management / Quantity Surveying through the University of the Free State. He is hard-working dedicated individual with a hands-on approach. He takes on every project with the utmost integrity and professionalism. Dehan specializes in project management, conducting diligent and thorough site inspections, ensuring quality across all areas. Civil Engineering and Construction is his passion, and he takes great pride in his work. Integrity forms the foundation of his career and he strives for perfection.

  • He holds a Civil Engineering Diploma from the Vaal University of Technology. Theo strives to complete each project on time and in full, with the highest quality. He has specialised experience in Construction Supervision, Management and Quality Control. He has a passion for his profession, and a willingness to bring about change.
